Socials

Socials and social activities have always featured prominently in Guildford Travel Club, particularly in the first 5
years of the Club, when there were almost as many social activities as talks.

Socials have included:

• Wine and cheese evenings
• Dinner dances
• Christmas celebrations including carols, customs from other lands, folk dancing, magic displays, quizzes
• Meals at ‘foreign’ restaurants – Indian, Mexican, Spanish, South American
• Social evenings for the Guildford Festival of Arts
• Photo/slide competitions of members’ travels at social evenings
• Folk bands, folk dancing, Peruvian pipe band

There have been many country focused evenings – with food and drink, films, talks, quizzes:

Members were often asked to dress in appropriate dress:

• Foreign National Dress
• Medieval Costumes
• Victorian costumes for a Victorian Evening
